My New TED Talk on Mobile Voting
Join the movement to fix our broken politics and save our democracy
Hi! My TED Talk is live.
It’s about why our democracy is broken — and, more important, how we can finally fix it.
If you feel like our country is failing, that our politics are toxic, that our society has degraded beyond repair, then Mobile Voting is the only way to take power back from the extremes and align the incentives of the politicians who represent us with the actual people they represent. Politicians will do whatever it takes to stay in office. Because of gerrymandering, typically only the primary matters. And because primary turnout is so low (usually 10-15%), the extremes — who do vote — tend to control everything. Which is why nothing then gets done.
We can change that by making it a lot easier to vote, and we can only do that by finally meeting people where they are: on their phones. That’s why we created the Mobile Voting Project. It’s why we built secure mobile voting technology that will be free to any government that wants to use it. And it’s why we need to now start passing legislation to allow people to actually vote on their phones.
Please watch the TED Talk. Share it. Help us in our fight. It won’t be easy. People who have power generally don’t like making it easier for others to gain power. But every major right anyone has ever won – the right to vote, the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, same sex marriage – is because enough people stood up long enough and loud enough that the status quo had to give in.
That’s what we have to do here too. And my hope is this talk sparks the movement. Thanks for watching it (and please share it with others if you like it).
